3. Zetesis



The Wadden Sea mudflats are completely devoid of any relief and thus prone to very strong winds, captured here as they overdrive the microphones' capsules, recorded during low-tide while walking from Neßmersiel to Baltrum, Wadden Sea, June 2009.

4. Ella Megalast Burls Forever



Caution: Very low frequencies. High volume may cause damage to equipment.

Two weeks of seismic activity compressed into an 8-hour work day, thus transposing the seismic waves so that they fall within the human hearing range and last as long as exhibition opening hours. Sonification provided by the IRIS Network web services, as recorded in Iceland, Borgafjörður, during the 2010 eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull.

Wind and waterfalls heard near to where the 2010 eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull began, recorded in Fimmvörðuháls, Iceland, August 2013.

6. Laissez Vibrer



Wind recordings to accompany an interpretation of James Tenney's "Koan (Having Never Written a Note, for Percussion)" for four drummers, each one playing a rolling cymbal. All windows wide open, completely exposing the exhibition space to the atmospheric conditions outside, Recorded in Berlin, May 2013.

Part of on a installation composed of electrical wall heaters and room insulation that kept the room dry and at a constant 30ºC, this piece is a recording of slowed-down church bells tolling. The title is a protest slogan voiced by italian metalworkers during a silent march in Milan, 1968.

Part of on a installation composed of electrical wall heaters and room insulation that kept the room dry and at a constant 30ºC, this piece is a recording of feedback and noise leaking out of the multi-channel soundcard used for the installation. The title is a mishearing of a protest slogan voiced by italian metalworkers during a silent march in Milan, 1968.

9. C'MON (Modulation for Two Microphones and Two Amplifiers)



Two weather balloons were moored on a pier overlooking the river, each one with a wireless microphone attached to it, and transmitting live the ambient sound of the waterfront to the interior of the Museu da Electricidade. Inside, each mic was playing on a separate electric guitar amplifier. Recorded on the Tagus River, Lisbon, June 2011.

10. Nord/Ost



Each recording location was chosen as a paradigm of each former Germany's preferred holiday resort. With each sea panned hard left or right, it translates both their physical separation by the Jutland peninsula and also Germany's political division up until 1989. Now both seas mix inside the room.

11. 360 hours



A stereo microphone pair was placed outside the Pavilion where the installation took place, transmitting the sound of the surroundings live into the room, where visitors could listen to it on headphones. While sitting down to listen, visitors were invited to read a publication made specifically for the installation: a reader on the World Soundscape Project, a Canadian research group that pioneered the concepts of Soundscape and Acoustic Ecology in the 70s.
